With my retirement close at hand, I wanted to take a moment to reflect on my 24 years at HM Insurance Group (HM) and offer my sincere appreciation to all the great people I’ve met along the way.
There has not been a boring moment during my career with HM. I started with the company when it was primarily offering life and disability products and participated in its evolution to a leading Stop Loss carrier. We’ve gone through several divestitures, acquisitions and partnerships during the past two decades, and our efforts have led us to the elite status that we’ve achieved in this industry. It’s been an exciting journey, and I am thankful for all the people who have joined us.
At the heart of everything has been the ability to change and adapt. I have witnessed significant shifts in technology, data analytics, health care legislation, market demands and on and on. It should not surprise me that I am wrapping up my time with HM during a pandemic. The lesson here is to expect the unexpected. (Shout-out to everyone who has stepped up to overcome the challenges we have faced.)
Within HM, our business areas have adjusted how we work, where we work and our overall approach to meeting our customers’ needs. Our teams have done an exceptional job of being flexible and adapting over the years. I see this as a key attribute for continued success moving forward. New treatments and medications, big data, artificial intelligence and changing workplaces are upon us, and there isn’t time to pause even after facing the recent challenges brought about by the pandemic.
To our TPA and broker partners, thank you for your support over the years. Your open communication, honest feedback and coordination with HM have contributed to our ability to meet the needs of our mutual clients. The relationships we have built have been and will continue to be integral to our shared success.
Most of you know I have been in Finance and Operations roles over the years, so you may think I have been focused on the numbers and data alone. However, that part of the business has always been secondary. It’s been the people who have kept me here for all these years.
I have been blessed to have incredible co-workers by my side. HM’s employees have always gone above and beyond in supporting customers, partners, charities and each other. All of us have choices in where we want to work, but I could not ask for a better group of people with whom to share these years. The same can be said for all of our external partners – I have learned from you, enjoyed some fun times with you and become a better person for knowing you.
I wish you health, happiness and success in your future endeavors. I leave HM knowing that the team is well positioned to meet the future and maintain the relationships we have built over the years.
